Clinton Crews TOPICDISCUSSIONACTION/FOLLOW-UPApproval of MinutesFebruary 18th Meeting MinutesApproved as submittedStrategic Planning Initiative and Faculty Satisfaction SurveyDr. Elza Mylona presented an overview of the Strategic Planning process that the school will undertake starting in April. The process will be concluded by September with the final plan submitted to the BOV in September. Strategic Planning process The process will not involve a rewrite of the current mission and vision statements. The plan will focus on four key areas: Clinical, Education, Partnerships, and Research. The aim of the plan is to identify the top challenges for the school in these areas and develop strategies that can be implemented and assessed in three year timeframe. There will be four planning groups in these identified areas. The groups will be co-chair by a faculty member and the committees will include representation from faculty members, BOV members, support staff, and the community. Two retreats are planned for the Steer Committee members which will consist of the planning group co-chairs and other select faculty/administration for 4/29 and 6/23. In April, the Strategic Planning Survey will be launched to collect qualitative data. The Research Survey that was presented by Dr. Nadler with input from the Faculty Senate will be incorporated in this survey. Faculty Satisfaction Survey The school will initiate a faculty satisfaction survey. The timing of the survey has not been determined. The plan is to use the AAMC Faculty Forward tool. This will ensure anonymity of the respondents. Items of concerns: Timing of the survey because the data is compared against cohorts of different schools who have completed the survey within the same window of time. Differences like size of faculty and schools who are in a repeat cycle of the survey come in to bear when comparing and ranking our faculty results using this tool. In addition, the survey is costly for the intuition. Faculty Development Update Since May 13 to March 14, 243 faculty have participated in the faculty development series. The Women in Medicine and Science forum has been rebooted. The School supported attendees to the AAMC conferences focused on early and mid-career female and minority faculty. PEG grants were awarded to 25 faculty last year. Applications for this year will open in May. Faculty Handbook is a project the Office of Faculty Affairs & Development has on its radar to address. Shortage of staff in the Office of Faculty Affairs & Development continues but recruitment is currently underway. Action: Dr. Derkay will follow-up with President Homan regarding attending the April Faculty Senate Meeting. Action: Encourage your faculty to complete the survey and provide constructive input and potential solutions. Committee Reports Deans Meeting Dr. Homan reported that Ms. Keenan has resigned her position at the school effective 3/26/2014. Match Day is March 24th the Dean expressed concerns about diversity among Resident Placements and that the school may need to create our own matrix to address this in the future. The State Budget is in a stalemate as a result of disagreement about Medicaid expansion. The EVMS fund request is in both the House and Senate Budget Bills. The school continues to works with the Attorney Generals Office regarding the Upward Payment Limit reimbursements. Academic Committee Faculty promotions were approved. An Accepted Student Portal has been created for the MD program as a means to attract and engage accepted students as they weigh their decisions for which school to attend. New Business Dr. Derkay requested that members volunteers for the nomination committee. The goal is to have a vote for the new executive committee members in June.
