If you’re passionate about helping others and pursuing a career in health sciences, the Exploring Healthcare Impact Learning Community is the perfect place to start! Designed for first-year students, this community helps you build the strong academic foundation needed to be competitive for admission into selective Health Sciences programs.
As an ILC student, you'll:
- Take classes with other first-year students interested in healthcare
- Learn from a junior or senior student mentor who’ll guide you through college life
- Participate in study groups, field trips, and exclusive ILC events
- Connect with professors and peers outside the classroom
- Explore a variety of health and helping professions
- Create an ePortfolio and participate in service-learning projects
Students in this community may also live together in a Living-Learning Community through a partnership with the Office of Housing and Residence Life—a great way to build lasting friendships and find support right where you live!

The College of Health Sciences Health Professions LC is open to students in Health Sciences majors including Cytotechnology, Dental Hygiene, Environmental Health, Health Services Administration, Medical Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Nursing, and Public Health. In this Impact Learning Community, you will meet weekly with an academically successful peer mentor, who is in the College of Health Sciences.

This Impact Learning Community (ILC) is tailored for first-year students pursuing careers in health and related fields, such as Physician Assistant, Veterinarian, Pharmacist, Dentist, Optometrist, Epidemiologist, Pathologist, Forensic Scientist, Nuclear Medicine Technologist, and Radiologist. You'll have the chance to participate in hands-on activities, including suturing, measuring vitals, and visiting the cadaver lab and Anatomage table. These experiences are designed to equip you with essential skills for college life. Through class discussions and assignments, you'll gain insight into what it truly takes to achieve your healthcare career aspirations. This community will help you understand the connections between various professions, make informed decisions, and embark on your journey with confidence and clarity.
This Impact Learning Community (ILC) is perfect for students eager to dive into fields like Athletic Training, Biomechanics, Cardiac Rehab, Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Strength & Conditioning, and other Rehabilitation Sciences. Here, you'll have the chance to network with faculty, meet fellow students, and connect with professionals working in these exciting areas. Experience a range of activities, such as visiting the Neuromechanics lab, VR lab, cadaver lab, and Anatomage table. You'll also participate in hands-on activities like functional movement testing, and much more!
This Impact Learning Community (ILC) is designed for nursing majors eager to explore a wide range of nursing specialties, including pediatrics, medical/surgical nursing, public health, maternal/fetal health and OB, psychiatric nursing, critical care, telehealth, and more. You'll have the opportunity to hear from nursing faculty and students, engage in hands-on activities and simulations, and discover how your prerequisite courses connect to your future career. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in field trips and other enriching experiences. Joining this community will help you jumpstart your first semester at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, as you work toward building a competitive application for the nursing program.
This Impact Learning Community (ILC) is tailored for nursing majors interested in advanced practice specialties such as Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA), Nurse Practitioner, Midwifery, Psychiatric Mental Health, Nurse Executive, Nurse Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and more. You will have the opportunity to connect with nursing faculty and students, engage in hands-on activities and simulations, and understand how your prerequisite courses relate to your future career. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in field trips and other enriching experiences. Joining this community will provide you with a solid foundation for your first semester, helping you build a competitive application for the nursing program.
This Impact Learning Community (ILC) is open to students from any major who are passionate about social justice and advocacy, especially concerning the social : non-medical factors that influence health outcomes and quality of life and the root causes of health disparities. You will explore the interconnectedness of race, gender, social class, family and social networks, and public health, as well as how the environments where you live, work, and play impact health. Expand your understanding of cultural competency, activism, and public policy, and learn how you can make a meaningful difference in your community.
