More than 600 counseling professionals from across the Commonwealth gathered last week for the Virginia Counselors Association’s (VCA) annual conference, where ϲ’s
Dr. Ed Neukrug delivered the November 13th keynote address. The conference, designed to support counselors working in PK–12 schools, higher education, clinical mental health settings and related fields, centered on this year’s theme: “Making Meaning in Counseling: Strengthening Connections and Transforming Lives.”
Dr. Neukrug’s keynote, “Strengthening Connections and Transforming Lives,” explored how counselors build meaningful relationships with colleagues, clients and the significant people in their lives. His talk highlighted core personality traits that support effective counseling, the importance of evidence-based practice, and the therapeutic common factors that help counselors foster growth and deeper connection. He also provided quotes from a variety of famous counseling theorists, and demonstrated how their ideas personally impacted his life and how reflecting on those ideas can make a significant difference with friends, family, and significant others.“I was so honored to be chosen as the keynote speaker for this year's Virginia Counselors Association Conference. The focus of the conference "Making Meaning in Counseling: Strengthening Connections and Transforming Lives," was particularly interesting and allowed me to offer insights on how counselors work with one another, work with clients, and connect with family, friends and significant others. I so enjoyed the opportunity to address these issues with Virginia Counselors.”
Conference organizers shared enthusiastic feedback about the keynote’s impact. The keynote joined a lineup of presentations and workshops designed to support counselors’ growth, well-being and continued professional learning.
