Choosing Healthy Options for Wellness (CHOW) is an outreach program where students teach community members about nutrition and help develop nutrition plans.
Students will teach community members about nutrition, healthy eating and exercise along with hosting health screenings in the community while providing education on healthy habits to lower blood pressure and manage diabetes.
Our students host blood pressure screenings throughout Norfolk and provide education on healthy habits. They also provide recipes to help manage high and low blood pressure along with education on managing prediabetes and diabetes through nutrition and exercise.
Our community partners include the Chesapeake Care Clinic, American Heart Association, Family and Community Medicine, the Virginia Cooperative Extension; and the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
