The Darden Council is a dedicated group of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alumni and supporters of the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies who support, promote, and advise the College in achieving its mission of advancing communities through research, teaching, and service. Meeting regularly with the Dean, Council members:
- aid the College in making a meaningful impact on its community, Virginia, and beyond
- enhance the working relationship between the College and its constituents by increasing communication and providing feedback
- advocate for support, financial resources, and partnerships necessary to the meet mutual needs of the College and its constituents
With diverse professional expertise and a shared passion for education, the Darden Council advises decision-making that directly impacts our students' experiences. As champions of our College’s mission, the Darden Council embodies the Monarch spirit—adapting, innovating, and fostering a collaborative community to inspire future educators and professionals.

This is a powerful opportunity to help advance communities through education, research, innovation and service - in Hampton Roads, across Virginia and beyond.
About the Advisory Council
The Advisory Council exists to support, promote and advise the College in achieving its mission and strategic goals.
Council members help the College to:
- Strengthen its impact on education and professional fields
- Build bridges between the College and the broader community
- Advocate for resources, partnerships and opportunities that benefit students, faculty and stakeholders
- Provide candid feedback and insights from multiple sectors
In short, Council members are partners in shaping the College’s direction and elevating its visibility and impact.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking individuals who:
- Care deeply about education, workforce development and community impact
- Bring expertise from fields such as business, education, government, healthcare, military and nonprofit leadership
- Value belonging, equity and inclusion
- Are from different backgrounds and walks of life
- Are willing to share their time, talent and treasure in support of the College
We welcome alumni, community leaders, employers and friends of the College who are ready to make a meaningful difference.
What Advisory Council Members Do
Advisory Council members:
- Attend at least two of the three Council meetings held each year
- Serve on at least one committee, such as:
- Bylaws and Vision Committee
- Community and Student Engagement Committee
- Development and Promotion Committee
- Executive Committee
- Membership Committee
- Offer strategic advice on programs, partnerships and community engagement
- Serve as ambassadors for the College in their workplaces and networks
- Are appointed for a three-year term and may be renewed for up to three terms, with additional terms considered as needed
Philanthropic Commitment
Council members are encouraged to make an annual gift of $2,000 or more to the Dean’s Discretionary Fund. This flexible fund allows the College to respond quickly to emerging needs and opportunities – supporting students, faculty and innovative initiatives that might not otherwise be possible.
